Festivity

Yesterday, there was a festival at Tinh Luat Temple, a pre-celebration of the Chinese New Year, which is on Valentine's day this year!  It's an early celebration, but my dad had wanted to go here last year, but couldn't, so we made it happen this year.  It wasn't very well planned because I had wanted to watch the lion dance, which is between 4 and 6, but my parents come home from grocery shopping at 3.  They ate lunch and my parents, Junho and I all left together at 3:30, unfortunately, there was a train of traffic and that place was 1 hour away.  When we arrived there it was almost 5, parking was full, so we had to park a mile away and a bus is supposed to pick us up to take us to the temple.  The bus they had told us about was in fact, a few vans and we all squeezed in for the ride.  It wasn't as crowded as the buses in China, but reminded me of it.  Anyways, we finally arrived at the temple, but there wasn't much left to do unless you want to listen to the singers, which I didn't want to.  Both my parents and Junho bought a raffle ticket:  1st prize is a Honda Accord, 2nd prize is a bonsai tree, 3rd prize is a laptop computer.  Junho hopes to win either 1st or 3rd, but he said he never won these raffles before.  (I'm secretly rooting for Junho to win )  Then, my parents wandered off, and Junho and I was left to do whatever we wanted.  We just wandered around, found some food, but they were all vegetarian.  They had fake meat made of tofu, which does look like meat, but taste different.  They even made the fat layer of that roasted pork.  Well, it was ok, but we were not vegetarian.  Afterward, I had wanted dessert, so we bought some che, which didn't taste so good.  It had a strong taste that wasn't supposed to be there.  Then, I bought some che dou hu nuoc duang, (I'm not sure if that's spelled correctly in Vietnamese) tofu with honey, for Junho to try.  This is one of my favorite desserts, but he didn't like it.  I should have tasted to see if it was even well made, but I didn't (ai....I didn't think of that....).  I'm just not supposed to eat anything made of soy right now, but almost everything there was made of soy.  Anyways, after that, we decided to exchange some money tickets to gamble.  Junho wanted to try that animal game, where you place your bet on the animal and if they roll the dice and the animal shows up, then you win money.  First, Junho bet 2 each on shrimp and crab, the dice rolled up 2 shrimp and 1 crab, so he won everything.  Next, he bet 2 each on chicken and bo (this is the only one that isn't an animal), and he won both.  We started out with $4 and ended with $14, so Junho felt satisfied.  He had fun that night because he usually doesn't win in gambling, except this time.  So by the end of the night, we gained back almost all that we spent.  It was pretty fun.  We all decided to leave at 6:30PM and headed toward Chinatown to find real food for dinner.  We ate Peking Duck and Hu Thiu at A Ly.  I had wanted to let Junho try that really good flat noodle dish there, but I ordered the wrong one because I didn't know what it was called that time my aunt ordered it. The dish came out and it was pretty good, better than the one at Sinh Sinh.  Junho said it tasted like the Fried Korean Rice Cake.  It was a good night and I like having Junho socialize with my parents.  Oh, they will be drawing the raffle today, I'll have my fingers crossed......

Joyful Cooking

Today, I went to Vina's, my best friend since high school, house to make "Panekuk," which is similar to crepes and we filled it with chocolate filling.  Her mom helped us out with the recipe and guiding us along, making sure we didn't burn anything. =P I'm just kidding, about the burning part.  Both Vina and I have some experience with cooking, but her mom wanted to help us out.  We made the chocolate filling first, which takes a little bit of technique and timing, so that nothing goes wrong.  Vina's mom did almost everything for this part, but it was nice for her to show me the technique.  After you mix all the ingredients together and cook it on the stove, it thickens like pudding.  But you never want it to boil until you have mixed and dissolved all the ingredients, which is a mixture of flour, egg yolk, cocoa, margarine, sugar and milk.  When it thickens, you want to see some bubbling and then turn off the heat.  Once we're done, we set it aside to let it cool.  Afterward, we started making the panekuk skin, which was much simpler, but requires a little bit of arm work.  After we beat the eggs, we'd add in some flour, then some milk and alternate like that until the batter is completely mixed.  Then, we just have to fry the batter into crepe like layers of pancakes.  Finally, when we finished everything, we brought everything to the table and scoop some chocolate filling onto one of the panekuk skin to roll it up.  At this point, Vina and I decided to experiment with different flavors.  I wanted bananas and chocolate, and she tried peanut butter and chocolate.  Both combination were good, but when we ran low on chocolate, we thought of trying peanut butter and jam.  >.< Bleh!  Jam and peanut butter crepe was gross because it felt like you were just eating jam.  LOL, our cooking experiments were fun and tasty minus the jam version.    This ends our joyful cooking for this week, and next week's plan will be making Onigiri...

Birthday Celebration!

Today is my 22nd Birthday and usually I celebrate it with my family.  However, this year feels special.  On Monday and Tuesday, I went to Schlitterbahn with Junho, James, Kenny, Nancy and Anthonio for a short vacation.  We had an awesome time and rode on every single ride.  Luckily the weather was very nice, not too sunny, yet not very windy either.  Besides the part where our van battery died and we had to replace it, everything was wonderful.  I arrived home late last night and after my shower, I immediately collapsed on my bed, exhausted.  This morning, Sylviana and Felona treated me to lunch and ice cream, which is very sweet of them.  I enjoyed lunch, especially since I haven't seen them for so long.  Then, in the afternoon, I was dead tired because I didn't get much sleep the previous 2 nights.  So I look a long and restful nap.  Later at night, Junho came to celebrate my Birthday with me.  At first I thought he wouldn't be able to make it because he had family business to take care of.  If he didn't show up, I would have been slightly disappointed, but I wouldn't be angry at him.  I knew he has family business to take care of and I understand that.  However, I was extremely happy when he came.  I received many great gifts from my friends, blessings from my family and a joyous celebration with my boyfriend.  Today is the most wonderful time of the year....

So Real...

Yesterday, I came home from work and work out, feeling terribly exhausted.  Well...that was partially my fault because I ate a pretty decent breakfast at 6 AM before work and got off at 1 PM and went straight to workout.  By the time I'm done, I went home, showered and started cooking.  I didn't get to eat until dinner time, around 7-ish.  Yeah....skipping lunch is never a good idea!  Anyways, I was dead tired and went to bed by 8:30 PM and I had a dream.  I have never had such a realistic dream, where I can clearly see all the details of the images before, but last night was the first...

My dream started with me in a bakery, choosing a slice of cake.  I wanted to buy it before meeting up with my bf, Junho, and I knew I would make it to the meeting time because it's close by.  Unfortunately, a little girl and her stressed out mother walked in.  The little girl was so excited and wanted to get a cake right away, but her mother told her to wait her turn.  Seeing this situation, I let the girl go first, so she wouldn't bother her mother.  The little girl took her time picking the cake and by the time I got out of the shop, I was already late for the meeting.

Once I saw my bf, I hurriedly walk to him, but he looked a bit upset, probably because he was worried about me (I'm a punctual person, so it's unusual for me to be late).  When I walked toward him, he started running away from me.  (Well...in reality, he does do this playfully sometimes, but in the dream, he was running faster.)  I started chasing him, but I was 1 meter behind him.  When I stopped to catch my breath, he stopped too.  I'm think, "well, if this is the game you want to play, then I'm all game."  I continued chasing him and he continued running, but he finally stopped in front of a white building with a white cross on the roof.  I thought, 'well two can play at this game.'  I ran toward him, but took a turn behind the bush and kept running.  Junho took the bait and started his pursuit.  He was obviously faster and just a feet behind me, so I ran under an arc and around a tree to make it more difficult.  However, I grew tired and leaned on a tree to catch my breath.  Junho ran toward me, but took a turn and ran straight for the steps up a cement path. That path had collumns and a roof to shelter the head from sun/rain.  I took the bait and continued my chase after him.  By this point, we were both laughing like little kids, playing the game of "tag," except that noone actually gets tagged.  We were having so much fun and what started as my punishment turned into an enjoyable game.  Junho turned back to make sure I was still behind him, but out of nowhere a soccer ball flew out and hit his legs.  He tripped and was about to fall flat on his face, but I ran forward, barely breaking his fall.  He fell on his hands and knees, but besides being a bit red, he didn't have major injuries.  I was also okay.  We were both exhausted at this point and he collasped on his back and I feel on top of him.  I kept mumbling into his chest while gasping for breath, "Oppa, to shi me (meaning be careful in Korean, hopefully I spelled it correctly)."  He would then stroke my hair softly and whisper, "a ra da, kaen chan na (I know, it's okay)."  We were now embracing each other in this position and reluctant to move from the comfort of each other's arms.  (It was a sweet moment ^.^).

A while later, as I sat up, I remembered the cake and took it out to eat.  Amazingly, it still looked as perfect as when I got it from the bakery.  I fed him a bite and took a bite myself.  While we're eating, I took out a sheet of paper with "IPPEE" on the heading.  (I have not clue what it stands for.)  I told Junho that my teacher had given me a special offer to work here and I plan to work there for the summer, but I have to keep it a secret from other students.  Well...Junho was different though...anyways, after looking at the paper, he said he wanted to try to apply there as well.  I thought that was a great idea and I supported him.  Suddenly, someone taps him on the shoulder, and Junho quickly rolled up the paper.

He looked up and a girl with shoulder length black hair said "hi."

Junho answered a little irritated, "What?"

I'm thinking, who is this girl?

The girl started talking to him, completely ignoring my presense. She was just a little too flirtacious, but Junho didn't respond, he just talk to her to be polite.

Out of nowhere the girl said, "Hey, I like you, do you like me?"

What is with this girl?

Junho grabbed my hand and simply said, "No, I already have a girlfriend."

I smiled at Junho, but thought this girl had some nerve to say that when there's a girl sitting beside Junho.

She said, "I don't mind, you can just dump her!"

She was getting on my nerves!

Junho got annoyed and said, "You're crazy! Go away!"

I kept smiling, happy that Junho is so firm, but that girl's got problems.

She stood up, glared at me and told Junho, "fine! You'll regret it!"

As she crossed the road, I looked at Junho and said, "that girl is psycho, you should be careful from now on."  He told me, "yeah, I know and you be careful too..."

Well...that's the end of my lovely dream, but it felt so real.  The images were like a movie screen, vivid and clear.  This is also the first time I remembered my dream so clearly; all the details, images and dialouge.  All the running and chasing might seem a little silly to people, but in the dream, I find it cute.  I wouldn't mind playing this game of "tag" in real life

Distraction

Sometimes my mind wanders.
Thinking of something,
Someone

My thoughts stray,
Not too far off,
But not very close by.

Something is missing.
Or rather,
I'm missing something,
Someone.

Time passes,
Not so long ago,
But not that short either

Sometimes my heart ponders,
Feeling a little lonely
Missing someone.
Missing him.
